Jesus: The Good Shepherd
John 10:1-21
How does the Good Shepherd lead His sheep?
I. The first way the Good Shepherd leads His sheep is that He delivers them from false shepherds (1-6).
II. The second way the Good Shepherd leads His sheep is that He becomes their door to abundant living (7-10).
III. The third way the Good Shepherd leads His sheep: He demonstrates deep care for His sheep (11-18).
Conclusion:
This passage is also ripe with lessons for spiritual leaders today:
1. Spiritual leaders are appointed to their position through proper channels of human and divine authority.
2. Spiritual leaders don’t act in self-interest, but in the best interest of the sheep whom they lead.
3. Spiritual leaders are concerned with the physical and spiritual well-being of the sheep.
4. Spiritual leaders make it their priority to protect the sheep from false teaching which seeks to diminish and even destroy the faith of the sheep.
5. Spiritual leaders know their sheep by name.
6. Spiritual leaders are recognized by the sheep as their divinely appointed leaders.
7. Spiritual leaders lead the sheep by faithfully teaching and preaching the truth.
8. Spiritual leaders lead by example, not asking others to do what they are not doing.
9. Spiritual leaders are accountable to others.
